About the role and what you’ll be doing: 

The Ensono Mainframe Solution Architect leverages knowledge of IBM mainframe technology to help document, shape, and direct the technology roadmap for Ensono and for our clients. Your work will include communicating directly with our customers senior executives and leadership to identify and address technology gaps, strategic goals, and business imperatives impacted by IBM infrastructure technologies. Your role will be to solution new technologies or new approaches to achieve customers achieve their business goals. These solutions must be developed using methodologies that integrate technology innovation with existing governance and enterprise architecture processes. Day to day tasks will include: providing fully costed solution architecture that meets client requests; maintain and update documentation related to organization-wide IT activities and technology roadmaps; communicate progress and direction through formal presentations, collaborative meetings, and content publishing to mixed audiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Presales Leadership

• Lead technical discussions, workshops, and proof-of-concepts with clients.
• Respond to RFPs/RFIs with detailed solution architectures and proposals.
• Partner with sales teams to craft winning strategies and value propositions.

Solution Architecture

• Design robust mainframe solutions leveraging z/OS, CICS, DB2, IMS, RACF, MQ, JCL, COBOL.
• Define modernization roadmaps (API enablement, hybrid cloud integration, DevOps pipelines).
• Ensure scalability, security, and compliance in proposed architectures.

Client Advisory

• Act as a trusted advisor to C-level executives and technical stakeholders.
• Translate complex technical solutions into clear business outcomes and ROI.
• Present modernization strategies aligned with industry best practices.

Thought Leadership

• Stay ahead of emerging trends in mainframe modernization, hybrid IT, and cloud.
• Mentor junior architects and presales consultants.
• Contribute to internal knowledge repositories and solution accelerators.

Core Mainframe Components Expertise

• Operating Systems: z/OS, z/VM, z/VSE
• Transaction Systems: CICS, IMS, Batch (JCL)
• Databases: DB2 for z/OS, VSAM
• Programming Languages: COBOL, PL/I, Assembler, REXX
• Middleware & Integration: IBM MQ, API enablement, REST/JSON services
• Security: RACF, enterprise IAM integration
• DevOps & Modernization Tools: z/OSMF, Git/Jenkins pipelines, hybrid cloud connectors

Required Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in mainframe technologies with at least 5 years in solution architecture/presales.
• Proven track record in mainframe modernization projects (cloud migration, API enablement, DevOps adoption).
• Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of engaging both technical and business audiences.
• Experience across industries such as banking, insurance, telecom, and retail.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence decision-making at executive levels.
