Ensono Awarded Nearly $143,000 from ComEd for Data Center Energy Efficiency

Ensono, a leading hybrid IT services provider, was awarded $143,000 by Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd), a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corporation, the nation’s leading competitive energy provider, for energy efficiencies in Ensono’s Downers Grove-based data center.

Data centers consume nearly 2% of electricity worldwide. And as the world becomes more digital, electricity consumption in data centers will surge — that number could rise to 8% of the global total by 2030.

Ensono’s energy-efficient additions to its data center resulted in an estimated 1,190,000 kWh savings per year, which is enough to power nearly 137 homes with electricity for a year — the equivalent of 795 acres of trees planted or 143 cars removed from the road.

“Business IT infrastructures are reliant on data centers, using electricity to power servers, storage equipment, backup devices and more. It’s difficult to reduce data center electrical usage as today’s digital landscape grows, so it was important to Ensono to find ways to increase its energy efficiencies where possible,” said Jim Kozlowski, Vice President Data Center Operations at Ensono. “We are committed to our continued energy efficiency efforts in our data centers around the world.”

ComEd presented Ensono with a check for $142,816.

Illinois Representative Terra Costa Howard, Illinois State Senator Suzy Glowiak-Hilton, Downers Grove Mayor Robert Barnett, Downers Grove Economic Development President Michael Cassa and Chief of Staff to the Senator Natalie Benner were all in attendance.
