Ensono reduces $25 billion energy company’s IT-related capital expenditures

Our client is a $25 billion energy company serving millions of business and residential customers throughout the U.S. and Canada. They generate and sell electricity, natural gas, solar, wind and nuclear power as one of the nation’s leading energy providers, employing 29,000 people.

There were three problems facing the IT group. The mainframe needed more power to handle the increasing workload, and it was time to refresh the equipment. Taking on either of these issues represented a substantial investment of time and money for the company. In addition, they wanted to reduce their mainframe footprint, and expense, over time as they migrate applications to other technologies.

The company’s business is driven by the critical applications — including processing meter readings, scheduling repair crews and billing customers —running on the mainframe.

Leveraging what we’ve learned through many migrations, we were able to bring several mainframes — totaling thousands of MIPS — to Ensono data centers, on schedule and without service interruption. In addition, we put together a migration plan to reduce the company’s reliance on the mainframe, and the associated expense, over time.
