The Client
This client is a publicly traded company with over 1,000 pawn stores across the U.S. and Latin America. It provides financial services such as pawn loans, retail lending, and buy-sell transactions, primarily serving customers without access to traditional banking.
The Obstacles Faced
The client is currently in the process of modernizing its technology as the organization transitions from monolithic to modern systems. This transformation involves the rapid deployment of services like Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Synapse, Databricks, and Data Factory.
Controlling costs amid these rapid operational changes was a challenge for the client, which relies heavily on Azure Reservations. Constant changes resulted in underutilized reservations, requiring frequent rebalancing to avoid Pay-As-You-Go charges.
The client needed advanced granular reporting for complex reservation management for highly dynamic environments, and standard use cases for cost control through reservations.
The Journey
This company has been a client of Ensono’s for several years, and our team has delivered a series of projects including a modern data platform and the automation of QA processes. As a client, the company has access to Ensono Envision® Advisor, a tool that inspects their cloud environment and provides recommendations for optimizing infrastructure, improving security and performance, reducing cost, and monitoring service quotas.
The insights delivered by Envision Advisor helped identify underutilized Azure reservations and Windows Virtual Desktop resources that are not typically part of standard reservation use cases. This helped address constant rebalancing challenges. Envision Advisor also identified new Azure Reservations needs in IaaS, PaaS and storage, thereby optimizing costs.
The Ensono Advisor tool has now been further adopted by other teams including Security, Database, Windows, and Linux teams.
